New year, new apps, and that means some great new games coming to the Play Store. Every year mobile games get more sophisticated and graphically impressive, setting a new standard for mobile titles. Here's our pick of the most exciting games we're looking forward to playing in 2018.
We're always scouring the Play Store to bring you new top-quality games to enjoy. 2017 has been a good year for mobile gaming but 2018 promises, as usual, bigger, better and more beautiful games to suck our time away. Check out these promising titles that are gearing up to hit the Play Store in 2018.
Shadowgun Legends
Madfinger games have already made a name for themselves developing top-quality shooters for mobile with great graphics, including AndroidPIT favorite Dead Trigger 2. But zombies aside, Madfinger games also have a sci-fi FPS series in the form of the Shadowgun titles.
The latest and greatest, the upcoming Shadowgun Legends, is set to launch this month, with a confirmed release date of March 22:

Aside from the graphical polish we expect from Madfinger games, we know that Shadowgun Legends will be a free-to-play futuristic first person shooter with some RPG mechanics, and will feature a full campaign for single-player and co-op as well as PVP deathmatches.
There'll be plenty of sweet loot to kit out your avatar, and naturally, bling will also be available via in-app purchase for players who prefer not to grind their way to glory.
A bad in-app purchase scheme can really ruin a game.

The Room: Old Sins
The latest installment of Fireproof Games' acclaimed spooky exploration/puzzle series is already out on iOS, but should be ready to play on the rather more diverse range of Android devices soon.
Old Sins has the player on the trail of a precious artifact believed to be the key to a mysterious disappearance. To find it, you'll have to explore disturbing places, puzzle through obscure clues and operate bizarre devices to uncover the secrets of Waldegrave Manor.
While there's no definite release date for the Android version, those looking to prepare their brains for the mental challenges and chilling atmosphere can try The Room 3, available on the Play Store.
The Room Three
Runescape Mobile
Runescape may need no introduction for old-school RPG fans, as the popular massively multiplayer fantasy world has been a staple on desktop since 2001. Runescape has a huge and dedicated community that will no doubt welcome the opportunity to adventure on their mobile devices.
Mobile gamers shouldn't be afraid of diving straight in either, however, as this version of Runescape will be optimized with mobile devices in mind. In the video below, you can see Jagex studios explain how they are adapting their popular MMORPG for smaller touch screens.
Runescape may be old school, but it's earned its long lifespan through quality content and a great community, so don't be surprised if this turns out to be even more addictive than the flashier modern new MMOs on mobile right now.
Life is Strange Mobile
Life is Strange is a narrative choice-driven game centered around the protagonist's special ability to rewind time. Without spoiling too much, let's just say that gamers who are less focused on action and more into exploring an emotionally engaging story will really appreciate that this game is finally coming to mobile.
The game is already available to iPhone users but Life is Strange is scheduled to release for Android in early 2018. Something sweet to kick off the new year's gaming with, then. Be warned when taking this game out on your morning commute, you might just end up crying on the subway.
Contra: Return
Contra is a classic video game franchise that's been around since the '80s, and has seen release on a variety of home and arcade machines. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a great history on mobile, with a remake of the original Contra being only briefly available outside of China before being pulled from the Play Store.
But there's still hope, as Contra: Return, Tencent and Konami and currently being tested in China, is slated for an eventual worldwide release. It boasts 3D graphics and huge bosses as well as the series' trademark insane firepower and classic 2-player mode.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery
Potter fans might be looking forward to go back to school after the Christmas holidays. Given the magical fantasy subject of the Harry Potter novels, it's surprising it's taken even this long for a Potter-themed RPG to come out. This upcoming title from Portkey Games (Warner Bros' games label), who are also working on augmented reality game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Hogwarts Mystery however, is perhaps even more exciting as it allows the player to enroll at the illustrious wizarding school, take classes, make friends, learn spells, and presumably, uncover some kind of mystery tied to the popular Potterverse.
Hogwarts Mystery is already available to play in some Asian countries, so if you feel like an early taste of it, here's how you can download the APK and play the game. If you'd rather wait for the official release, you can pre-register for the game.
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds Mobile: Battlefield
If you know anything about PC gaming, then you'll no doubt by aware of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, or PUBG, the battle-royale multiplayer action game that's became a surprise breakout superstar, selling over 20 million copies and reaching almost 3 million simultaneous players at its peak.
There are actually two PUBG titles for Android in development. One is subtitled Army Attack, which is slated to deliver a more arcade-style gameplay, but we're more excited for Battlefield, which is promising the same intense battle royale multiplayer loot n' shoot of the PC version.
Mobile gaming has never been better
It's shaping up to be a good year for Android games. These are the main titles we're looking forward to playing in 2018, but that's not all. Popular sports titles (hi there, FIFA 2018!) will get their new versions. Popular iOS games will be adapted to Android, and the retro-gaming scene will no doubt bring new ports to mobile, such as we're seeing with Sega Forever bringing back Genesis classics to the Play Store.
