All the shows and movies coming to Netflix in June

Netflix is our favorite way to enjoy movies, TV and documentaries on various devices, even on our smartphones and VR headsets. However, it can be hard to keep track of all the cool content coming and going every month. What are the new arrivals, and which ones deserve your precious viewing time? In this monthly list, we'll answer these questions with our best tips for upcoming Netflix content.

Netflix: best shows and movies coming in June 2019

As summer draws near, it seems that Netflix is offering something of an antidote, as the streaming service is set to deliver a strong batch of dark sci-fi originals. Naturally, that goes down a treat for the somewhat geeky (no, really?) crew here in the office. Let's take a look at our top picks for June.

Black Mirror season 5

As technology fans, we can't help but love Black Mirror even as it brings to surface all the dark sides and pitfalls of our increasingly connected lives. Black Mirror's fifth season features three new stories, the product of a collaboration between writer Charlie Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones. Titled "Smithereens", "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too", and "Striking Vipers", each story explores the complexities of human connection warped by technology that promises easy gratification, but often comes with a hidden catch.

I am Mother

This creepy sci-fi thriller is set in a post-apocalyptic world after humankind has gone almost extinct following a catastrophe. Clara Ruggard plays Daughter, a teenage girl who is the first of a new generation of humans raised by Mother, an intelligent robot with a mission to to repopulate the earth. But, the arrival of a mysterious stranger with dire news causes Daughter to question everything she has been told about the outside world, and what her Mother plans.

Jessica Jones season 3

Krysten Ritter returns as the hard-hitting, hard-drinking titular, no-nonsense superhero that brought us a significantly grittier perspective on the Marvel universe. Whether the third and final season can reach the highs of the first season remains to be seen, but here's to hoping that Ritter's Jessica goes out with a bang and more than a few punches and choice one-liners. Judging by the date announcement trailer, our protagonist's dark past and personal problems are set to be a focal point once again.

Dark season 2

Don't be afraid when you hear German, because you'll miss out on one of the best Netflix originals ever created. Didn't see the first season? You should. Take a much more mature Stranger Things with a dash of Twin Peaks and season with a heavy Teutonic grimness, and you have some idea. Dark continues the story of this time-warping mystery that connects the denizens of a quiet German town across three generational timelines, with every character having a part to play in a confluence of events that play off gritty human drama against apocalyptic sci-fi.
