Samsung has given us a look at what it has in store for the start of 2020. As expected, the Galaxy A51 will be the successor to the popular mid-range A50 and comes with an interesting camera setup and an Infinity-O Super AMOLED display.
Samsung has not been shy in spicing up its A-series and has already revealed almost all the details about two of its upcoming mid-rangers for 2020. Just a few details remain unknown, including the official release date and price, but here's everything we already know about the hardware.
Shortcuts:
The new Samsung Galaxy A51 could be confused for one of Samsung's more flagship smartphones from the front as it features the kind of Infinity-O Super AMOLED display we saw on the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus this year. This one is a 6.5-inch with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 (405 ppi) in a 20:9 format. That puts it in the FullHD+ range. There's a small hole punch in the center at the top of the display, but the screen-to-body ratio still comes in at 87.4 percent. The display itself is covered by Gorilla Glass 3 and there's a fingerprint sensor buried under there too.

The back of the phone is made of plastic, which is kind of normal for this price range, especially from Samsung. It's a diamond-cut design and there should be plenty of colors for these phones. We already know that Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, Prism Crush Blue, and Prism Crush Pink will be available at launch.
Classic mid-range essentials such as a microSD slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack are still included on the Galaxy A51 for 2020.
The Galaxy A51 features a quad camera on the back housed in a module that has quickly become the fashion in the smartphone world. Three sensors are positioned vertically whilst a fourth sits parallel at the bottom of the module. There's an LED sitting to the right-hand side of the three vertical sensors too.
The camera setup is as follows:
- 48-megapixel, f/2.0, (wide), 1/2", 0.8µm, PDAF
- 12-megapixel, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide)
- 5-megapixel, f/2.4, (wide), dedicated macro camera
- 5-megapixel, f/2.2, depth sensor
On the front, poking out from that hole-punched display, is a 32-megapixel selfie camera (f/2.2, 26mm (wide), 1/2.8", 0.8µm) that features HDR and can shoot video at 1080p at 30 frames per second.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 will initially launch with Android 9 Pie and the brand's own interface One UI. An update to Android 10 will certainly be on the cards, but when that will happen we don't know.
In terms of hardware, the processor is an Exynos 9611. It's an Octa-core SoC manufactured with a 10nm process. In terms of RAM, we know there will be 6GB and 8GB versions, but potentially a 4GB version too in some regions. Internal storage is set at 128GB but don't forget that microSD slot, which supports expandable storage up to 1TB.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 will come with a 4,000 mAh battery and support for fast (ish) charging up to 15W. It's a USB-C port on the bottom of the phone. That's not a huge size, and the display could be quite hungry, but this is the mid-range after all.
The only thing we don't know about the Galaxy A51 right now is the price and exact release date. The smartphone should be available in most of Samsung's major markets at the start of 2020, but it's also possible it goes up for pre-order at the end of this month.
The price is still unknown, but the A50 launched at $350 and now sells for closer to $300, so expect something in this ballpark for the follow up too. It is unlikely Samsung will increase the price as this would send the A51 running into its other mid-range devices.
